Red Sun Farms, a Mexican producer of hydroponic vegetables, is set to establish a new $30m greenhouse tomato production operation in Pulaski County in Virginia, US, a move that will create 205 jobs over five years.

As part of the plan, the company will erect climate controlled greenhouses on 45 acres of land in the New River Valley Commerce Park, in order to grow quality greenhouse grown vegetables.

The establishment of a major greenhouse production operation like Red Sun is expected to strengthen Virginia's position as a major player in agricultural development and provides potential for greater growth in this sector.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell said that the state offers optimal climatic conditions for greenhouse operations, a central location providing access to east coast markets, and an efficient workforce ready for the new opportunity.

"As the first tenant of the New River Valley Commerce Park, Red Sun Farms' significant investment and creation of 205 new jobs is a tremendous win for the Commonwealth and Pulaski County, and represents strategic growth for the New River Valley region," McDonnell noted.

Besides providing new jobs to the community, the company's latest project will help diversify the local economy and add value to Virginia-grown products.

Red Sun Farms, headquartered in Michoacán, Mexico, was founded in 2001 as part of a family owned agro-industrial group, Agrícola El Rosal.

The group is engaged in the production of vegetables under greenhouse hydroponic systems using high technology.

Red Sun Farms is a key component of Agrícola El Rosal's agriculture division, and is an integral part of the group's business growth and development across North America.
