Jay Biotech is a research based organization working in an area of agricultural biotechnology. It is also approved by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. The research focus is towards the development of knowledge based bio-pesticides, bio-fertilizers and plant growth promoting rhizo-bacteria.

Jay Biotech is working in collaboration with National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, for pest and pathogen management in grapes under a public private partnership programme in the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Jay Biotech has also been recognized as a R&D training institute by Biotech Consortium India Limited, New Delhi. Through these R&D activities research farms for grapes (50 acres), Sugarcane (20 acres) have been developed.

The major focus is given for soil micro-flora management, plant health promotion, pest and pathogen management and chemical pesticide residue management. More emphasis is given on uses of bio-organic products for crop management. All the table grapes produced are exported to UK and Europe. In 2009-2010 some grapes exported from India were refused by the European market due to the residues of chloromquet chloride (CCC, a plant growth regular).

However, all the 23 different plots of grapes from Bafna farm, Pune were passed for CCC with below maximum MRL or with BLQ (below level of quantification) in India, UK as well in Europe. The role of the products Jay Tricho, Jay Pseudo and Jay Baci is the degradation of the chemicals used in grape management. The research in this regard is in progress and aims to export residue free grapes. Through this R&D different bio-organic products are commercialized for grapes, pomegranate, banana, sugarcane, oil seed crops, vegetables, pulses, cotton, grains, tea etc.

Jay Biotech products have reduced the use of chemicals at Bafna farm by 50% and developed a method for Grape production twice a year. They have also achieved pesticide free grapes even in off-season, the company has had no residue problems in 12 years of exporting grapes.

Products developed by Jay Biotech have successfully controlled Downy Mildew and Powdery Mildew in grapes. Successful control of “Tellya” (a bacterial disease caused by Xanthomonas) and “Wilt” (fungal disease caused by Ceratocystis and Fusarium sp.) in pomegranates has also been seen, pomegranate yields have also increased from 3 tonne/acre to 9 tonne/acre.

Successful trials on tomatoes are in progress using only Jay Biotech products (Zero chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides).
