The Complementary Healthcare Council of Australia launched an introductory certificate in complementary medicines at its 2012 National Conference in Sydney yesterday. The non-product based course has been designed for consumers and front-line retail staff to better understand complementary products.

The new course comes on the back of recent CHC study that found that almost 75 per cent of Australians use complementary medicines.

“With research findings continuing to illustrate this rise, we see it as our responsibility to ensure that consumers have all the information they need to make informed choices around the products they are purchasing,” said Dr Wendy Morrow, executive director of CHC.

The introductory certificate provides a concise overview of complementary medicines through six modules, which are completed online with access to a tutor. It contains practical examples, reflexions, case studies and quizzes and can be completed at the student's own pace.
