The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that Trident Seafoods Corporation has voluntarily issued a recall for two lots of its frozen Multi-Grain Alaskan Cod after consumers found pieces of white plastic in the product. This plastic came from inspection tags used by an ingredient supplier.

The recalled product, “Trident Seafoods Multi-Grain Alaskan Cod (Frozen), Net Wt. 12 oz.” was distributed to and sold by Albertsons, Amazon, Cub Foods, Jewel, Morey’s Plaza Extra, Shaw’s, Shoprite, Sprouts, SUPERVALU, and Woodman’s retailers. Packages affected by the recall are stamped with the UPC code “0 28029 21048 4.” The recalled lot numbers are: Lot Number A633511, Best By: 11/30/2018 (distributed between 12/1/2016 and 2/9/2017 to Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin), and Lot Number A636225, Best By: 12/27/2018 (shipped between 1/23/2017 and 2/17/2017 to Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin).

People who eat the frozen cod run the risk of choking on the small plastic materials or of sustaining injury to their mouth or teeth. Consumers should either return the product to the place of purchase for a refund or throw it away.
