McDonald's is testing 5.5 to 7 inch "junior" bananas in its Happy Meals in the Austin, Texas, market, according to USA Today.

If testing goes well, bananas could be added to McDonald's Happy Meals and Mighty Kids meals across the U.S.

"This is part of the journey we started four years ago to make Mom feel better about Happy Meals,"said Greg Watson, senior vice president of menu innovation.

McDonald's recently tested Cuties, and is considering testing blueberries and grapes.

Apples were added to Happy Meals in 2012, and McDonald's has since served more than 1.1 billion bags of apple slices, the company reports.
