More than 70 chefs from China and Russia have cooked a 112-meter-long pork kebab, setting a Guinness record, tourism authorities said Wednesday.

The cooking took place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the China-Russia border city of Suifenhe, where workers pierced more than 300 kilos of pork slices with a skewer about 111 meters long, marking 111 years of history of the port city in Heilongjiang Province.

A notary for Guinness World Records announced that the exact length of the kebab was 112.374 meters, replacing the previous 107.6-meter one made in Japan to become the world's longest.

The kebab was grilled on a huge burner converted from a deserted rail section of the Chinese Eastern Railroad that traverses through the city, symbolizing the close connection between the city and the railway, said an official with the city's tourism bureau.

All facilities were disinfected and hundreds of Chinese and foreign tourists enjoyed the giant kebab following food safety workers' strict supervision.

The event is part of activities of the Fourth China-Russia Tourism Festival held in the city.
