Avocado prices are to increase drastically due to high demand and low supply. Prices are already up by as much as 25% in the UK, compared to last year.

Avocado producers in the Mediterranean have been hit by El Nino, which has made production more difficult. Producers expect production to fall by 30 per cent this year, which could see prices increase further.

Making the most of avocados
However, it has recently been revealed that you can get more out of an avocado than just the green flesh. It has been revealed this week that eating the seed of your avocado is good for you.

An avocado stone contains 70 per cent of the fruit’s antioxidants. The seed has a soluble fibre that helps with digestion and reduces cholesterol levels, and oils that stimulate collagen production meaning a healthier heart and skin. It is recommended that the seed is cut into quarters and then put it into a blender to make a powder which you can add to your smoothies or sprinkle over your morning porridge.
