UK-based supermarket chain Sainsbury's is offering Christmas card recycling at nearly 500 of its outlets in an attempt to help dispose the post-Christmas and holiday wastes.

The retailer will also make a donation to the Forest Stewardship Council based on card volumes collected until 15 January 2013.

Sainsbury's is also providing recycling banks at around 300 outlets for wastes such as cardboard, recycling wrapping paper, aluminum, clothing, glass and plastic, reported The Grocer.

Commenting on the initiative Sainsbury's sustainability head Paul Crewe stated that the offer aims to provide sustainable and easy way of disposing Christmas wastes on completion of the holidays.

"With Christmas cards they can help make even bigger difference by simply taking cards into a store to be recycled, with Sainsbury's making a donation to the Forest Stewardship Council based on volume of cards collected," said Crewe.

The initiative is part of the retailer's efforts to provide its customers a convenient and sustainable living.
