Vietnam and the Netherlands on Monday inked a series of documents aimed at boosting cooperation in the fields of agriculture and energy in Vietnam's capital Hanoi.

After talks held here during the visit by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to Vietnam, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Dutch counterpart signed an agreement on strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Netherlands on sustainable agriculture and food security.

The two prime ministers also witnessed the signing of two documents on cooperation in oil and gas.

Speaking at a subsequent press conference, Nguyen Tan Dung said the establishment of strategic partnership on sustainable agriculture and food security between the two countries will be the focus of bilateral cooperation in the years to come.

Other priorities for cooperation in oil and gas and shipbuilding also bring prospects and opportunities for both countries, Dung said.

Mark Rutte, for his part, said the two countries have become alliance in cooperation areas of water, agriculture, energy.

The Dutch prime minister expressed his belief that the cooperation between the two countries will further grow, and vowed to eliminate existing barriers and obstacles to continue strengthening the bilateral relations.

Vietnam and the Netherlands established diplomatic ties in 1973. In 2013, the bilateral trade value reached over 3.6 billion U.S. dollars. The Netherlands is now the third largest importer of Vietnamese goods among European countries.
