On March 1, 2018, according to the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA), at the request of the European Commission, the European Food Additives and Flavoring Agents (FAF) assessed an extended-generation reproductive toxicity study (EOGRTS) to determine the daily allowable intake of sorbic acid (E200) and potassium sorbate (E202).

Based on EOGTRS, the FAF team determined the lower baseline dose limit (BMDL), i.e. 1110 mg sorbic acid/kg body weight (bw) per day. By applying the default uncertainty factor 100, the team established an ADI group with sorbic acid (E 200) and its potassium salt (E 202) at 11 mg sorbic acid/kg body weight per day.
