Swedish burger chain Max Burgers is planning to open 50 new outlets across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region over the next five years.

The move is part of the company's aim to speed up its global expansion plans.

Max Burgers CEO Richard Bergfors said that the company will open stores in Dubai before launching its operations across the rest of the Gulf.

"The plan is to launch here in Dubai and then take it from there. We'd like 60 plus outlets [in the next five years] but it could be more," Bergfors added.

In recent past, an increasing number of fast food franchises have been using Dubai as a springboard to launch their operations in the Gulf.

Founded in 1968, Max Burgers opened its third outlet in Dubai recently and plans to open more outlets, along with two in Abu Dhabi, by the end of May 2013.

Max Burgers currently has more than 85 restaurants in Sweden.

The chain offers traditional hamburgers, as well as healthier alternatives such as the Delifresh menus, low GI and gluten free items. Max also sells its own brand of salad sauce.
