EnWave Corp., an industrial technology developer, has signed a commercial license with Hormel Foods Corp. for the production and sale of specific food products dehydrated using EnWave's Radian Energy Vacuum (REV) technology.

Under terms of the agreement, EnWave is leasing a large pilot-scale nutraREV production unit to Hormel. The agreement also entails long-term royalty rates, broader global market rights and the use of EnWave's nutraDRIED trademark on Hormel's retail food products. Other terms of the license were not disclosed.

"EnWave's REV technology has allowed Hormel Foods to create a number of unique products that deliver great flavor and retain high nutritional value," said Scott Aakre, vice president, Corporate Innovation and New Product Development for Austin, Minn.-based Hormel Foods.

The pilot-scale nutraREV unit is expected to be fully operational this summer. EnWave currently has six REV platforms that are used in the food industry to dry fruits, vegetables, meat, herbs and seafood quickly and at low-cost, while maintaining high levels of nutrition, taste, texture and color, according to the company.
