Clover’s new Prisma carry packs are way better, thanks to a reinforced handle, which has been added to the wrap-around supplied by Nampak Corrugated.

According to Craig Platt, the Marketing Manager of Nampak Corrugated, Clover required a way better handle to improve the functionality and appearance of the long-life milk carry packs. Each carry pack holds six one-litre cartons. Previously, the handles were prone to tearing while being carried, damaging the milk cartons and frustrating consumers. To address the problem, the packaging company commenced a nine-month project, during which various reinforcing systems and designs were investigated.

For the purpose of testing the concept, Nampak Corrugated sourced a Wellpack Unroll Stand, which was easy to set-up and operate. Following a series of trials, a technical group went to Europe, where they evaluated the Wellpack Taper System, a leading in-line tape application solution for the corrugated industry. After a successful “proof of concept” phase, Nampak Corrugated invested in two Wellpack tape applicators.

“They’re user-friendly, easy to understand, have a very short set-up time and are reliable,” says Craig. The machines were installed at the company’s manufacturing plants in Durban and Port Elizabeth during July. Final designs were approved in September, with production starting in October. The reinforced handles are launching on Clover’s long-life 2% low fat milk carry packs. Thereafter, they will be applied to Clover’s other long-life carry packs.

New graphics highlight the added convenience of the reinforced handle. “The new Prisma packs are easy to open, easy to pour and easy to store. Now, they’re easy to carry too,” says Sherian King, Clover’s Senior Brand Manager. “This is one more example of how we’re adding value to our consumers’ lives by being way better!”
