PTI-Europe, a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based Plastic Technologies, Inc. (PTI), has installed a certified permeation testing laboratory at its Yverdon site in Switzerland.
The site offers oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapour permeation testing for rigid, semi-rigid and flexible packaging materials and finished packages using US-based company, Mocon’s, Ox-Tran and Permatran units.
The facility will target brand owners who want to ensure that testing standards they have established in other parts of the world can be repeated in Switzerland.
The packaging development engineer said the certification will allow it to offer expanded testing and analysis capabilities.
Speed-to-market crucial
Greg Fisher, director of global testing and analysis services of Plastic Technologies, told FoodProductionDaily.com it’s about speed-to-market.
“The driving force behind many packaging innovations is “speed to market.”  The more that can be done in one location, the faster a brand owner can reach its goal of getting the product on store shelves.
“Our laboratory did not previously have water vapour transmission instrumentation, so this expands our capability.
“Further, we have upgraded our oxygen and carbon dioxide test capacity with additional, newer technology instrumentation.”
Site fully operational
He added that the certified test facility is fully operational now with all equipment installed, verified and operational.
“[It offers] packers the convenience of having thorough performance testing done in one location. Our facility brings both speed and accuracy to the project timeline.
“Brand owners prefer to partner with suppliers that have technical knowledge and systems in place to meet their critical deadlines.
“Plastic Technologies has always been a leading edge company and this one more service to help sustain that position.
“This new capability allows us to stand out by providing more complete lab services than ever before.”
