The MPS EXL 660 flexographic machine for converting flexible packaging was custom built for Label Technology in The Netherlands and takes the total number of presses at their California site to nine.

The ten-colour 26-inch press has ten print stations and is equipped with digital servo drive technology for accurate web velocity and web tension as well as a defect detection system, said the firm.

It is designed for high productivity flexible packaging production with technology that minimizes waste and reduces set-up time.

‘Press is next step in evolution’

Dave Bankson, president of Label Technology, said: “This new press expands our manufacturing capacity to be able to provide unbeatable turnaround times and service for flexible packaging while maintaining our high standard for print quality.

“Historically, Label Technology has invested in leading edge converting technologies to drive down waste and continually supply improved products and service to our customers, and this press is the next step in that evolution.”

The company said the installation of HD Flexo, an upgraded prepress and digital imaging technology, will enable high resolution optics to bring an expanded tonal range, wider colour gamut and smoother vignette printing than standard digital technologies.

Pouch market growth

The company has also installed a pouch manufacturing line with the aim of supporting the growth of the market for pre-formed pouch packaging formats.

The pouch maker doubles the company’s capabilities for three side seal, zipper and gusseted stand-up pouches.

Bankson added: “Our new press, pouch machine and upgraded imaging technology ensures we are able to meet the market demand for quick-turn, high-quality packaging film and pouches that are manufactured in the United States.

“Our culture of employee ownership, pride in our products and continued improvement is what drives the expansion of our manufacturing capabilities.”

Label Technology, is a flexographic printer of flexible packaging and pressure sensitive labels, to the food processing, produce, meat and poultry markets.
