Senators Antonio Horvath and Chahuán Francisco have filed a motion amending the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act for the purpose of prohibiting the use of wires in the swordfish longline fishery.

The initiative will be reviewed by the Committee on Fisheries who will aim to replace the wire nylon monofilament.

Recent studies have shown that branch lines monofilament longlines tend to catch more swordfish.
