Heres the latest berry market update from Peter Skolnick at Imperial Frozen Foods:

California strawberries: We are seeing a unprecedented demand for frozen strawberries from California. Good quality and a cooperative Mother Nature mean that California is able to pack frozen strawberries in October and November. Previously this was unheard of with a "normal" season ending for the most part in early September.

Mexican Strawberries: Due to the improved growing conditions in Mexico there is now a "fall" crop. Frozen strawberries have benefited due to the strong demand for fresh strawberries. Which means when there is a good fresh crop some of the strawberries get diverted to the freezer.

Mexican Blackberries: The demand for fresh blackberries from Mexico is unprecedented. Most of this is due to the high quality of the Tupi variety blackberry, which has great flavor, color, sweetness, and the ability to ship. Again, often when there is a strong fresh market there is a diversion to the freezer. This has been particularly important because Pacific Northwest frozen blackberries are essentially sold out.

The US is competing with Europe and Asia for Chilean blueberries.

According to information from sources within the North American blueberry industry, Europe, Asia and other markets are making attractive offers for Chilean blueberry shipments. Invasive pest threatens blueberries. Insecticides seem to be best choice for eventual eradication, expert says
