Thai Union Frozen Products on Monday announced it set a sales record in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The company posted USD 969 million (EUR 706.2 million) in sales, up 13 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2012. For the year, the company said sales reached USD 3.7 billion (EUR 2.7 billion), up 6 percent compared to 2012.

In terms of sales, tuna is the company’s largest category with a 47 percent share, followed by shrimp at 25 percent, sardine and mackerel at 6 percent and salmon with 4 percent. Thai Union’s biggest export market is the U.S. with 42 percent market share followed by the EU with 30 percent, domestic market with 7 percent, Japan with 7 percent and other markets with 14 percent.

“2013 was a challenging year for the seafood export industry with the major affecting factors being raw materials of shrimp and tuna,” the company said.
