Colorado popcorn purveyor Doc Popcorn said Tuesday it has inked a 60-unit franchise agreement in Mexico, which is its first international deal.

The first of the 60 units is expected to be unveiled in 2014 in Monterrey, the third largest city in northeast Mexico.

Commenting on the deal, Doc Popcorn co-founder Rob Israel said that Mexico is the largest US popcorn export market and the best place for the brand's first international master franchise.

"We are thrilled to have Rene, Mariana and Jose as partners to bring Doc Popcorn to the Mexican marketplace," added Israel.

The company says the delicious snack is made with natural ingredients, and is low in fat, has no cholesterol and zero grams of transfat.

Doc Popcorn believes that the deal will expand the brand's footprint globally.

Doc Popcorn specializes in a healthier version of popcorn and is the first and only fresh-popped, all-natural flavored popcorn franchise in the world. It has over 85 units with an over 300 in development.
