On July 1, the Customs Union Technical Regulation TR CU 029/2012, "Safety requirements for food additives, flavorings, and technological aids", went into effect. This document, originally published July 20, 2012, establishes various requirements applying to the production, labeling, and use of food additives, including maximum use levels in individual food products. The regulation is currently in the process of being translated and added to the International Food Additive Database.

The Customs Union includes Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
