The past weeks, demand for mangoes has decreased, and prices are also a bit lower. According to Sjoerd Meijer of Fruitmarket, the fibreless mangoes are currently doing okay, but the Tommy Atkins, on the other hand, have a harder time getting sold. "A few weeks ago, prices of Tommies were still almost 7 Euro, but at the moment we're looking at 4 to 5 Euro." The reason for the somewhat decreasing prices, Sjoerd says, is the higher supply and lower demand at the moment. "Compared to last year, there are some higher volumes on the market."

Decent prices
More was paid for Kent and Keith a few weeks ago as well, but those prices are also decent at the moment. "They're selling at between 7 and 8.5 Euro. The market has stabilized somewhat, and I expect us to be able to hold on to this price level for a while, around 7 to 8 Euro. For the rest it's difficult to predict of course, seeing how multiple factors influence the market situation."

Fruitmarket supplies mangoes year-round, and sometimes other products like avocado, limes, and grapes. The company supplies its exotics in the Netherlands, but also exports to various European countries. Fruitmarket supplies the mango varieties Kent, Keith, Tommy Atkins and Palmer. At the moment, Brazil is the main supplying country, with the Keith and Kent varieties.
