This is the time when oranges ripen, and some of the early season varieties already gradually enter the market. "Xiangshan Red Beauty" is a new, upcoming orange variety. It was quite popular in recent years and the price is relatively high. Under the right management conditions, this variety has a production value of around 200 thousand yuan [28.8 thousand USD] per 0.07 hectare.

"Red Beauty" oranges generally sold for more than 60 yuan [8.65 USD] per kg in the 2017/2018 retail season, with some prices going as high as 123 yuan [17.73 USD] per kg. Orange orchard owners earned around 50-100 thousand yuan [7.21-14.41 thousand USD] per 0.07 hectare, while some earned as much as 200 thousand yuan [28.8 thousand USD] per 0.07 hectare, which is more than 10 times the average production value of orange orchards.

The overall surface area devoted to "Red Beauty" orange plantation in Zhejiang Province currently exceeds 1.3 thousand hectares with a production volume of 3 thousand tons. However, only 20% of that surface area is in operation. There is huge growth potential for the production volume of "Red Beauty" oranges. Furthermore, this product variety is an early-season orange with high product quality, which is one of the reasons why this variety quickly grows in popularity in the orange market.

Xiangshan in Ningbo, China, is one of the major orange production areas in China. The overall surface area devoted to orange production in Xiangshan is currently at 7.3 thousand hectares with an annual production volume of 120 thousand tons. Xiangshan worked hard in recent years to cultivate "Red Beauty" as a top-quality, representative orange variety.
