The volume of fruit and vegetable exports from Jordan in the last three days of May reached about 10,000 tonnes, according to the press spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Nimer Haddadin.

He pointed out that the demand for agricultural products in foreign markets is recording a significant increase. Tomatoes account for 50 percent of the exports, another 30 percent corresponds to fruit and the other 20 percent to various vegetable varieties. Mr Haddadin said that "the increase in exports will be beneficial for the interests of Jordanian farms."

Jordanian exports in the first third of this year amounted to about 162,000 tonnes, down about 24 percent compared to the same period last year, mostly as a result of the closure of the Syrian and Iraqi borders.
