Bulgaria expects imports of Greek fruits, like peaches and apricots, to increase due to the country's poor harvest prospects. Many growers have blamed this on the impact of frosts. This will likely affect the final price paid by the consumers.

Besides the damage caused by the weather, another reason for this is believed to be the fact that Greek exporters are able to sell their products at much lower prices, since they are reported to be receiving twice as many subsidies than their Bulgarian counterparts.

The poor March weather took a huge toll on the crops from producers in northern Bulgaria. Mariana Miltenova, of the National Union of Producers, reported that "the impact has been huge, since there are areas where 100 percent of the apricots and peaches were destroyed, and in southern Bulgaria, near Sliven and Pazardjik, the fruit was also hit and plums were affected."
