Due to the adverse weather conditions at the beginning of the year, vegetables became more scarce.In February, the consumer price index rose by 2.4% year over year, under which vegetable prices rose by 80.7%, the largest increase in 21 years. The last increase which was higher dates back to August 1983, when prices rose by 83.91%.
Food as a category rose by 8.45%, the largest increase in 42 months. It was mainly driven by vegetables and fruits respectively rising by 80.7% and 14.51%, together they rose by 1.93%.
