During the first seven months of this year, Romania imported onions, garlic and shallots worth 11.4 million Euro, according to latest official figures from the National Institute of Statistics.

It was also reported that the value of Romanian imports of carrots, turnips and beets during the same period amounted to 11.8 million Euro, while the country exported bananas worth 16.6 million Euro, coconuts valued at 31 million Euro, and pineapple and avocados worth 145 million Euro, despite the fact that these fruits do not grow in Romania.

In global terms, the Institute revealed that Romania imports more food products than it exports. In the first seven months of the year, the country's food imports were worth 3.13 billion Euro, while the total value of food exports stood at 3.06 billion Euro.
