The costs for agricultural production have increased by more than the inflation rate which is putting Turkish growers in a difficult position. The inflation rate in the last year has been 11.1 % whereas some cost items such as petroleum prices increased by 27 %.

These increases can be seen also on the market side where the price of agricultural products continuously increases due to increasing costs. The highest rise in prices in retail was in onions with a 12% increase whereas the increase was much steeper for the onion growers with 46 %. Onion was followed by potato with 31 % price increase, by green onion with 24 %, by green pepper with 18 %, by tomato with 8 % and by strawberry with 4 %.

At the markets, onion was followed again by potato with a 10 % price increase, by lentil, lemon, zucchini and cucumber with a 7 % increase and by cucumber with a 6 % increase.
