Despite of its great production volume, and the yearly increase in production, pomegranates are not very popular in the country. Peru exports up to 90% of its production to destinations like Russia, Canada, and the USA. Last year, companies such as Imperio Export, marketed about 80 containers from March to June, and this campaign they expect to export 20 containers more.
"The price of Wonderful pomegranates fluctuates, depending on the international market's supply and demand," stated Jorge Lazo, manager of Imperio Export. "Currently, the 4 kg box of category 1 Wonderful pomegranates has an FOB price of $9.50, while the category 2 stands at $8.5," he said.
