“There used to be a Belgian saying, a fig after Easter is a noose for the boss (come too late in the day, be too late to be of any use). But in the last few years that no longer holds true. Indeed, it looks like Christmas,” Richard Strijbis of Tovano says. For the Ramadan he especially imported a car full of figs in special packaging (48x250 grammes per box).

“The Ramadan always boosts the sale of Turkish figs, just as, for example, Medjoul dates, but the fun thing about figs is that they are eaten by all sections of the population throughout the year. For Tovano, figs are a large product on a yearly basis,” Strijbis continues.

“We have already been working with our Turkish shipping agent Ephesus for years. These figs are cultivated in mountainous areas, and you can taste that, because they have more pulp. The figs are very healthy, and they clearly provide a need. By working with reasonable volumes, we can sell them to our customers for a decent price.”
