Spain's banana production will grow by 5.3% in 2016, while that of extra-early potatoes will remain stable (+0.2%), according to data supplied by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

The banana harvest, which concentrates in the Canary Islands, will reach 393,000 tonnes, compared to 373,000 tonnes in 2015, according to still very preliminary estimates.

For fruits and vegetables, the report only includes forecasts for 2016 in the case of bananas and extra-early potatoes (104,300 tonnes).

In the case of citrus, it notes that estimates of the 2015 harvest corresponding to the 2015-2016 campaign reveal declines in all productions, mainly due to the high temperatures recorded over the last twelve months (since May last year).

The declines registered by various citrus crops were as follows: lemon (-31.6%), orange (-16.2%), grapefruit (-19.3%), satsuma (-19.5%), clementine (-22.6%) and mandarin hybrids (-8.1%).
