The Meteorological Institute in Guangzhou warned people to expect hailstorms. In addition to excessive rainfall, many districts in Guangzhou City also experienced hailstorms. Apart from Guangzhou, areas in Shaoguan, Qingyuan, and Zhaoqing also suffered hailstorms and 7-8 thunderstorms in the night of February 20th, and the morning of February 21st.

The hailstorm was relatively brief and the influence it had on banana production in the area is still unclear. One banana farmer in Zhaoqing explained that the farm only suffered from strong rainfall in the afternoon of February 21st, but there were no hailstones. The banana farm continued to operate as usual. Another farmer in Nansha stated that "the sky in Nansha is clear and boundless." While another farmer in Qingyuan stated that "I am not sure about other areas, but here in Qingyuan everything is fine."
