summary:Almost 50 industry onion representatives converged on South Australia’s South East region for Onions Australia’s May conference....
Delegates travelled from The Netherlands, New Zealand and every state of Australia to attend the two day event, hosted by Onions Australia in Bordertown.

Those attending were given updates and advice from the Fair Work Ombudsman’s regional services team, which was well received and particularly timely.

A generous strategic partnership was also introduced during the conference, with key partner AgNova Technologies launching a new link on their website that will allocate a percentage of onion chemical related sales to Onions Australia to support their industry.

Speakers also presented on legal property registration changes, financial advice, seed advancements and chemical availability.

The event included a comprehensive Horticulture Innovation Australia (HIA) update, which provided attendees with plenty of opportunities to question the progress of the new organisation.

The event featured plenty of networking opportunities, with delegates attending an onion themed dinner at the Bordertown Hotel, which showcased numerous dishes featuring local onions.

There was also a tour of Tony Rowett’s onion operation, with a barbecue hosted by the local Rotary Club and a soil sampling seminar by SARDI.

The group then moved on to Glenda Rowett’s art gallery and the Clayton Farm Heritage Museum, before finishing with networking drinks at the Sundowner Motel.
Onions Australia chair Kees Versteeg said the conference was exceptionally successful, held strategically in the centre of SA’s key onion growing region.
