WILD is expanding its facilities in Berlin and Valencia.

Late last year, WILD purchased land from the real-estate company, Liegenschaftsfonds Berlin. The property totals approximately 6,500 square metres and is located on the Spree river, directly adjacent to the company grounds. At first, the property will be used as an additional logistics staging area. Ultimately, there are plans for it to be made into a production area.

In December 2013, WILD Valencia acquired three plots of land bordering on the company grounds, adding a total of 11,165 square metres to the site. WILD plans to use the additional space to facilitate truck access to the company grounds and improve traffic flow in the loading zone.

The company also said that it has developed new concepts based on a unique ginger preparation. The ingredient comes directly from fresh ginger and therefore keeps the authentic taste intact, the company said, and he preparation can be used in beverages and confectionery products.

Ginger flavoured foods are becoming increasingly popular throughout Europe, according to WILD, who cite Innova’s research which found that the number of ginger products is growing rapidly, especially in the category of beverages. The number of beverages featuring a ginger note, a total of 132, has nearly doubled in 2013 compared with the previous year.

WILD says that its ginger ingredients are suitable for application in nearly all beverage categories, the spicy note combining well with still drinks and tea products, as well as with carbonated soft drinks.

One promising product concept, the company said, is the citrus-ginger flavour, pairing the refreshing tang of citrus with the gentle spice of ginger to produce a sensation that is both fruity and hot.

The new ginger preparation can also be used in sweet applications such as confectionery products and ice cream. The ginger compositions are said to be especially good in fruit gums and hard caramels.
