Australian supersauces and flavoursmarket group Coles has launched a new range of barbeque basting sauces and seasoning/rubs, which come in packaging equipped with grinders and brushes to make application more convenient.

Coles said the flavour blends had been inspired by tastes from around the world, including the hot Caribbean Kick Seasoning, borrowed from the sweet and spicy “jerk” style of cooking and the Harissa Heat Seasoning, taken from the intense flavours of North Africa.

The range of four new basting sauces feature a built-in washable brush, while the Coles Grill seasons include adjustable grinders on each of the four new flavours.

All products in the range are available from Coles supermarkets from $4.99.

“The Coles Grill range has always set out to make inspirational food accessible to the budding chef on their home BBQ,” said Blair Smethurst, Head of Coles Product and Innovation. “We are particularly proud to offer the new range of sauce bottles which incorporate a world first built-in washable basting brush – to help make barbequing a little easier for Aussies without sacrificing taste,” he said.

The range includes:

Basting Sauces:

• Coles Grill Smokey Texan: a dark, sticky sauce with a sweet smoky BBQ flavour and aroma.
• Coles Grill Hot Jalapeno: a deep red, opaque sauce with minced chili flesh and seeds. With a blend of jalapeno and cayenne chili, this product has a very spicy and slightly sour flavour.
• Coles Grill Bushman’s Brew: a thick sauce with herbs and mustard seeds. Coles said this product has upfront sweetness with the flavour and bitterness of beer, followed by mustard.
• Coles Grill Mediterranean Tang: a sauce with pieces of garlic, onion and herb and a base of citrus and rosemary.

Seasoning grinder/rubs:

• Coles Grill Caribbean Kick: a spicy blend with dominant pimento (allspice) and clove, slightly sweet with dried thyme and chili.
• Coles Grill Outback Bite: a coarse blend of pepper, tomato, a touch of chili, with prominent citrus notes from lemon myrtle and the earthy coffee-like finish of wattle seed.
• Coles Grill Harissa Heat: a mild blend of dried chili peppers, tomato flakes, coriander, caraway and cumin, the heat of the chilli is latent coming through after the initial flavour impact.
• Coles Grill Mexican Fiesta: a coarse spice rub of chili peppers, cumin, cloves and chocolate. This blend delivers quite a bit of heat from the chili, according to Coles.

Coles said the new products are an extension of the existing Coles Grill range, which features high quality marinated meats, including RSPCA Approved Coles Brand chicken, No Added Hormone Beef, and sow stall free pork.
