New operation ProTec Nutra is small with about eight staff but general manager and head of sales, Keith Harrison, told us the firm was all about full nutritional turnkey solutions to recent EU regulatory challenges - particularly tough new health claims rules.

“We are not interested in offering commodities and competing on price,”
Harrison said. “I personally spent 25 years in Italy working in the pharma sector, and the company has much experience in dealing with regulatory matters so that provided the motivation for this move.”

“In particular we can help companies decide how to use the ingredients and associated health claims, and provide advice when claims are not available.”

Offerings include caffeine, calcium forms, red yeast rice, creatine, folic acid, vitamin K2 and potassium.

The company has supply and distribution partnerships with  Albion Minerals, Kappa Bioscience, North East Pharmaceutical Group and PPM Ingredients.

Harrison said the company’s initial focus was the UK where contract negotiations were proceeding with supplement companies, and the rest of Europe was also in its sights.

In a statement, ProTec Nutra managing director Alan Eastwood said:
“ProTec Nutra will mirror our personal care business ProTec Ingredia, which focuses on high value, quality ingredients with points of difference for customers. We pride ourselves on ingredient and formulation excellence and importantly we have vast experience in the regularly and legislative landscape that is governing and changing the Food Supplements sector.”

“ProTec Nutra intends to drive innovation into the marketplace, much as we have done in the other industries our Group serves, whilst also offering our full expertise and knowledge to customers.”
