FSIS has revised its Directive 1720.1, “Safe and Suitable Ingredients Used in the Production of Meat, Poultry and Egg Products,” which provides inspection program personnel (IPP) with an up-to-date list of substances that may be used in the production of meat, poultry and egg products.

FSIS will continue to update the directive quarterly by issuing revisions instead of issuing amendments, it announced Wednesday.

The revision includes updates to the list of substances added since the directive was issued July 5, 2012. Among those additions are eight new substances, including antimicrobials and binders
