All India retail price of sugar for Oct 2012 stable at Rs 39-40 per kg
The average All India retail price of sugar in the domestic market during the last month of October…The average All India retail price of sugar in the domestic market during the last month of October 2012 were stable and is in the range of Rs 39 to 40 per kg.
Sugar production in the current sugar season 2012-2013 is estimated to be sufficient to meet the estimated consumption requirement. As such no announcement of export of sugar during the current year (October 2012 to September 2013) has been made so far.
During the months of July 2012 to September 2012, the government took the following measures to control price of sugar in domestic market:
(i) The unsold non-levy quota of about 2 lakh tonnes from April to June was allowed for sale in the open market from August 14, 2012 on July 13, 2012;
(ii) Sugar mills have been directed to sell at least 70 per cent of the July-September quota by August 2012 vide order dated July 24, 2012;
(iii) Additional quota of 2.66 lakh tonnes has been released on July 27, 2012 to be sold off by August 31, 2012;
(iv) Another additional quota of 4 lakh tonnes has been released on August 7, 2012 to be sold off by August 31, 2012; and
(v) Higher non-levy quota of 40 lakh tonnes for the months of October 2012 and November 2012 has been released in the open market on September 28, 2012.
