Symrise AG has obtained a €125 million long-term loan from the European Investment Bank to fund its intensive research and development activities on functional ingredients for cosmetics and healthy nutrition.

Symrise’s research and development work also will continue to place an emphasis on the accelerated development of functional ingredients, which will be offered by the Life Essentials and Consumer Health business units. The market segments for care products and food with additional benefits have been growing at an above-average rate for a number of years due to the increased consumer awareness for a balanced way of life.

“Research and development is the foundation of our innovative strength and the basis for our accelerated growth. For many years, Symrise has invested heavily in the research of innovative fragrances, flavors and functional ingredients, as well as into the development of environmentally friendly technologies and new process techniques. We are delighted that the European Investment Bank is supporting us in this area as a financing partner with a long-term perspective. This recognizes our activities and gives us an incentive to continue along our high standards of innovation, quality and consumer awareness," said Dr. Heinz-Jürgen Bertram, CEO of Symrise AG.

The company’s new research and development facility will begin operations at the Holzminden site in April. The activities of the Scent & Care and Flavor & Nutrition divisions will be combined there, promoting interdisciplinary scientific discussions.
