Northern Divine, the first caviar producer in North America to be certified organic, is now the first caviar to be recommended ‘Green’ Best Choice by Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch and SeaChoice programmes.

Seafood Watch Best Choice category means abundant, well-managed and caught or farmed in environmentally friendly ways, states the company.

Seafood Watch encourages restaurants, distributors and seafood purveyors to purchase from sustainable sources. Seafood Watch recommendations are science-based, peer reviewed, and use ecosystem-based criteria.

SeaChoice is Canada’s most comprehensive sustainable seafood programme about solutions for healthy oceans. Working in collaboration with the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch programme, SeaChoice also undertakes science-based seafood assessments, provides informative resources for consumers, and supports businesses through collaborative partnerships.

“Our commitment to sustainable farming practices for our sturgeon and caviar have been in practice for a number of years and today we are extremely proud that we have been recognized as a ‘Green’ BEST CHOICE by Seafood Watch and SeaChoice. Sustainability is essential to our business and our customers,” said Justin Henry, General Manager of Target Marine Hatcheries.

Target Marine Hatcheries says it has been sustainably raising Fraser River white sturgeon since 1999. The facilities are located on 60 acres of pristine wilderness located in the small town of Sechelt known as the ‘land between two waters’ on Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.
