Hofseth BioCare's fish oil and protein processing facility has received Friend of the Sea sustainability certification, the company announced today.

“We’re very happy to have obtained Friend of the Sea certification to prove the sustainable origin of our products” said Sjur Jenssen, CEO of Hofseth BioCare.

The Norwegian company produces fish oil under the brand OmeGo, and fish proteins, sold under the brand name ProGo, sourced exclusively from trimmings of salmon processing plants. The processing all takes place at the company's Midsund plant.

Friend of the Sea certification indicates that no artificial chemicals are involved, and that fishing is done in a sustainable manner from waters that are not marked as overexploited or protected.

Neither Hofseth nor its suppliers use GMO products, the company said. Supplies of trimmings are carefully tracked and labeled, and all wastewater is filtered. The company also noted that controls occur three times a year, and are regulated by the government.
