The Commission confirmed that the deal would not raise competition concerns because it will not significantly alter the structure of the markets concerned.

It added that the merging parties would have a relatively limited combined market position and that a sufficient number of alternative suppliers remain on the markets concerned.

“The Commission therefore concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the EEA or any substantial part of it,” it added.

Nordenia manufactures flexible packaging, plastic films and film based product components with operations in Europe, the US and Asia.

The Mondi group is principally involved in the manufacture of packaging paper, converted packaging products and uncoated fine paper.

Mondi Group agreed to buy Nordenia International for a cash sum of €240m in July.
