CCL Label hopes manufacturers will fly the flag

The ‘flag’ is attached to perforations running up the side, giving space for additional information or promotional messages. This has space for printing on both sides.

Austria-based Martina Harrer, CCL Label marketing manager told FoodProductionDaily.com that the flag could send specific brand or promotional relevant signals to the consumer at the point of sale, or even barcodes.

Suits small bottles

Harrer said: “This product is good for small bottles in particular, perhaps sauces or healthcare products, it is particularly useful where there is not much space on the label.

“But is makes all products eye-catching. I hope that it will be taken up by big manufacturers across Europe. There is nothing similar on the market.”

The shrink sleeve packaging around the bottle/container top was easy to open and was also tamper-evident, Harrer explained.

The sleeve material consists of a multi-layer shrink film. Depending on product shape the sleeve is equipped with a horizontal and/or vertical micro-perforation.

September launch date

CCL Label said that the surface of the flag delivers a good grip, while the sleeve can be torn open easily with two fingers.

The seal is applied using specialist machinery from Berning Maschinenfabrik GmbH, D-Frankenberg/Eder, Harrer said.

This technology combines offset and rotary print and electron beam drying using non-migrating inks which gives flexibility in the design on the flag.

CCL Label's “easy4opening” product is to be launched at this year’s FachPack show on September 25-27, 2012 in Nuremberg, and is expected to be rolled out across Europe from then, Harrer said.

CCL Label has 70 plants around the world and is a leading global supplier of decorative, informational and promotional labels to large consumer and healthcare companies. It is part of Canada-based CCL Industries.
