The move comes after the Russian government recently said that the country will begin imports of Iranian dairy, fish and meat products in exchange for grain.

RIA Novosti quoted Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Inspection Service press secretary Yulia Melano as saying: "We gave permission to six Iranian companies for delivery of food products: four dairy producers, and two poultry producers."

The products will be imported into the country following an additional set of tests by Russia, to ensure food safety.

Russia imposed a ban on imports of meat, dairy products as well as fruits, vegetables, and fish from Europe, the US, Canada and Australia after a series of sanctions on Russia over its alleged involvement in the Ukrainian crisis.

Consequently, the country is seeking new trade partners for food imports.
