chef Richard DaviesThe Manor House Hotel and Golf Club, Castle Combe, has donated £2,952 to Comic Relief with £2,290 raised by the team in the Bybrook restaurant and £662 raised via staff fundraising.

Richard Davies, executive chef of the Manor House, starred in BBC 2’s Great British Menu which this year teamed up with Comic Relief.

Chefs from around the country were challenged to create dishes that not only tasted amazing but also brought a smile to the panel of judges that included a number of leading UK comedians and comedy writers.

It was third time lucky for Richard as he successfully made it through to the final banquet with his Lenny Henry Strawberry Parfait Dessert.

During April guests to the Bybrook restaurant have had the opportunity to order Richard’s complete Great British Menu, or upgrade any lunch or dinner to enjoy his Lenny Henry Strawberry Parfait Dessert with the hotel making a donation of £10 for each menu sold and £5 for each dessert upgrade.

Richard said: "It was a privilege to be asked on the show again and thankfully my past experience helped me progress through to the final banquet.

"To cook a dinner for Comic Relief, the workers and the volunteers was an amazing occasion and I am very proud of the all the team in helping raise almost £3,000 for such a worthy cause."

Staff at the hotel were also busy fundraising and doing something funny for money. John Rowlands, greenkeeper at the hotel, managed to raise £500 with staff sponsoring him to grow his hair.
