If all the troubles that the corona plague has brought into people's lives were not enough, it has also increased obesity among many Israelis. Therefore, the Ministry of Health released a new food rainbow, adapted to Middle Eastern cuisine.

The rainbow is divided according to the recommended consumption frequency of different foods. The green rainbow contains a variety of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains that can be eaten without restriction; the yellow rainbow contains food groups such as olive oil, nuts, legumes, milk and its substitutes, which are recommended to eat every day.

The orange rainbow, on the other hand, contains foods that should be varied on a weekly basis. And the pink rainbow contains raw beef, which should be consumed only in very small amounts. If you eat meat, the recommendation is not to consume more than 300 grams a week, for the benefit of health and sustainability. The inverted red rainbow contains products that are not recommended for consumption at all. These products are characterized by high levels of saturated fat, sodium, and sugar and a high degree of processing.

Not just "new age"
As mentioned, during the Corona period, the understanding that nutrition had an immediate significant effect on health and resilience was strengthened. Obesity, diabetes, and nutritional deficiencies have been found to be associated with higher corona infections, disease complications, and significantly higher mortality.

"Eating healthy is not just 'New Age'. Eating healthy is for our health, for our lives," said Health Minister Yuli Edelstein. "Obesity has been on the rise and now is the time to take care of the day-to-day health of us all."

Prof. Hezi Levy, Director General of the Ministry of Health, added that he sees improving the quality of nutrition as one of the important tasks of the Ministry of Public Health. “In recent years there has been an increase in diabetes, heart diseases, brain, and vascular diseases. Proper nutrition from an early age is the right way to deal with these diseases and improve the quality of life and life expectancy for all."
