Pomegranate in juice form is becoming popular not only because of its flavour, but also due to its unique health-friendly properties. Pomegranates are rich in polyphenols and antioxidants. A new study reveals that the respective fruit could potentially fight against chronic inflammatory diseases.

Researchers from the University of Bologna and the University of Auckland conducted the respective study. The study aimed at evaluating the anti-inflammatory effects of the juice of the pomegranate. A number of other studies indicate that pomegranate helps with conditions like diabetes, atherosclerosis and prostate cancer as well.

Inflammation is a natural corporal response to infections and tissue damages. However, chronic inflammation has been linked to the development of disorders including:
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Asthma
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Psoriasis

The definite mechanism through which the pomegranate’s constituent components attack inflammation is yet not established. However, an extensive number of existing studies provide a plenty of evidence for the fact that “pomegranate juice can help against inflammation and related diseases.”

According to tophealthjournal.com, most of the scientific research regarding the health benefits of pomegranate involves cell culture or animal models. Clinical trials with humans have -up until now- generally been lacking. Scientists are already looking forward to pomegranate as a promising source of fighting cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome and diabetes. However, further studies need to be called on in order to determine the components and mechanisms behind the properties of pomegranate against chronic inflammation and other diseases.
