Turkey is the world's bigger producer and exporter of hazelnuts. The 2015-2016 season began on the 1st of September 2015 and ran to the 30th of August 2016. The season registered 2.2 million USD of export sales. The average price of 100 kilograms of standard natural kernels hazelnut was 817 USD.

About 200,000 tonnes of hazelnuts were exported to the countries of the European Union, 16,000 tonnes to European countries outside the EU, 30,000 tonnes to overseas countries and more than 12 000 tonnes to other countries in the world.

In 2014-2015, for the same period, 217,427 tonnes were exported for an export figure of 2.8 million USD. But the conditions of the international market actually increased the price, which was 100 kilograms of hazelnuts at 1300 USD.
