Gelatine and collagen peptides producer Rousselot will be showcasing its Peptan collagen peptides and Synergy Systems functional solutions at this year's Hi Japan (Tokyo, 9-11 October).

Visitors to the Rousselot stand can learn about the latest scientific research supporting the proven efficacy of Peptan, with a particular focus on its healthy ageing properties. Rousselot will also highlight the ability of its gelatine-based Synergy Systems to both improve traditional recipes and enable the creation of new and exciting products.

With the proportion of Japanese consumers aged 65 and above continuing to rise and expected to represent almost 40 per cent of the country's total population by 2055, demand for products which can help limit the physical impact of ageing is expanding at a rapid rate, the company said. Rousselot's Peptan collagen peptides are designed as a highly effective solution for food and beverage manufacturers targeting this exciting market segment.

Manufactured using an enzymatic hydrolysis process, Peptan are described as highly bioavailable and digestible peptides which offer unique nutritional properties not found in other protein sources. A convergent body of scientific evidence has, according to Rousselot, demonstrated the range's effectiveness in limiting the negative effects of age-related mobility-restricting conditions, such as osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), osteopenia (reduced bone density) and sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass). Clinical studies are also said to have also proven Peptan's ability to rejuvenate skin collagen structure and promote younger looking skin.

Rousselot will also showcase the wide-ranging application potential of its collagen peptides, presenting three sample formats featuring Peptan F (fish-grade peptides) – Beauty Cookies, Beauty Cherries and collagen-enriched Miso soup. Visitors can also sample applications incorporating Peptan P, including a berry beverage, peach flavoured dairy drink and pumpkin soup – all said to have healthy ageing benefits.

Rousselot will officially present its new Synergy Systems to the Japanese market at the exhibition. Composed of different types of gelatine, or a specific gelatine coupled with another ingredient (such as pectin), the systems work synergistically – the functionality of each component ingredient is boosted when combined. The range is designed to enable manufacturers to develop innovative and enhanced products with new or additional benefits. Easy-to-use, these solutions, says Rousselot, can improve texture, taste, stability or emulsification, for example, as well as support the development of better-for-you products.

On stand, Rousselot will demonstrate the functional capabilities of three of the four systems in the Synergy Systems range. Visitors can sample: extruded acid cola-flavoured marshmallows, made possible by AcidoGel, temperature resistant jellies produced using ResistaGel and savoury gummies featuring NeutralGel. Experts from the Rousselot team will also be on hand to provide further information on EmulsiGel – a clean label ingredient which emulsifies and stabilises in an oil-in-water emulsion.

The Synergy Systems form the subject of a seminar at the exhibition too. Entitled 'Rousselot's Synergy Systems: new solutions to drive innovation', the event will be hosted by Erik Ramaker, Rousselot's gobal product manager, Gelatine. It will take place between 15:30 and 16:20 on Wednesday October 9, in Presentation Room A.

Peptan Global Director, Christoph Engelbrecht, will also present 'Healthy Aging: The new market especially for collagen peptides' during the exhibition. The event will start at 14:30 on Thursday October 10 in Presentation Room A.
