DSM launches OatWell Oat Beta-Glucan Product
DSM is expanding its health ingredient portfolio with the introduction of OatWell oat beta-glucan, f…DSM is expanding its health ingredient portfolio with the introduction of OatWell oat beta-glucan, following the acquisition of the OatWell brand from CreaNutrition. Oat beta-glucan was awarded positive opinions from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Commission has authorized Article 14 health claims for cholesterol reduction and the associated reduced risk of developing heart disease, as well as for digestive health and blood glucose control.
Beta-glucan is a soluble fibre found in oats. This naturally-derived ingredient is particularly well-known for its heart health benefits and helps to maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels, both key pillars of cardiovascular function. Multiple clinical studies show that three grams of beta-glucan per day lowers cardiovascular disease risk by as much as 20 per cent.
OatWell is the latest addition to DSM’s ‘Guard your heart’ health benefit platform, which also includes life’sDHA™ and MEG-3 omega-3s and Fruitflow. The market for functional products targeting heart health is booming, with the global industry predicted to be worth $15.2 billion by 20181 as consumer awareness and the body of scientific research grows.
