The purpose of the seminar is to get an overview of the knowledge that exists about the halibut population and the challenges associated with fishing for halibut, while the Directorate of Fisheries wants to input any new regulatory measures related to halibut and monkfish.

Furthermore, the Fisheries and Coastal Affairs department, in a letter dated 14 May 2012, ordered a hearing on the regulation of fishing for halibut and monkfish.

Kknowledge of the species is limited and information about the halibut population distribution and size comes mainly from fisheries.

At the meeting, a possible ban on fishing for halibut south of 62 ° N will be discussed.

The draft programme for the seminar will be sent to participants by e-mail in August.

Registration can be made to Anne Marie Abotnes by 31 August.
